The abstracts I paint on paper are results of experimentation with my tools and paint. They are an expression of my curiosity and playfulness, always asking, "What if?" That's when surprising and sometimes delightful things can happen (or not!) The results may relate to a memory or a feeling or just the joy I find in color.

These paintings, with their subtle complexity, are repeatedly layered transparently and translucently in search of radiance, nuance and depth. They evolve through a process of improvisation, revision and intuition.

My paintings find their roots in the Color Field movement. Notable artists within that movement are Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis, Jules Olitski and Richard Diebenkorn.
